Indoor air quality is a concern!

We can see unhealthy outdoor air by pollutants from smokestacks, vehicle exhaust and smog. But did you know the air inside your home can be even more hazardous to your health? In fact, indoor air can be up to 100 times more polluted than the air we breathe outdoors. Studies show that most people spend as much as 90% of their time indoors. It just makes sense to install a GeneralAire® Residential Air Cleaner today!

Do you
  • have allergy-sufferers in your home
  • have kids
  • own pets
  • have a smoker in the house
  • cook often
  • dust regularly
No home is immune from indoor air quality problems. Pollutants like mold, bacteria, dust, pollen and pet dander find their way into your home’s air everyday. In the last several years, doctors and public health officials have found that poor air quality in the home is a growing problem, with significant health risks--potentially causing or aggravating everything from headaches and allergy flare-ups to asthma attacks.
  • On average there are 1 million contaminant particles per cubic foot of space in a home
  • 80% of all the contaminant particulates are .1 Microns or lower (1 Micron = 1/25,000 of an inch)
  • Viruses are 0.1 to 0.3 Micron
  • Respirable Dust is 0.3 to 3 Microns
  • Tobacco Smoke is 0.1 to 5 Microns
  • Bacteria is 0.3 to 5 Microns
  • Mold is 3 to 5 Microns
  • Pollen and Visual Dust is 10 to 100 Microns
Back to the Top
For size comparison, an average human hair is 70 Microns thick, a penny is 19,000 microns, and a small shirt button is 12,800 Microns. We offer filters that can effectively remove 90% + of these contaminants down to a size of 0.01 microns. Most filters remove less than 50%.

The Air You Breathe

Did you know the air inside your home could be up to 100 times more polluted than the air outside? It's true. The air we breathe in our homes is loaded with pollutants like pollen, lung-damaging dust, pet hair, dander, dust mites, mold spores, bacteria and viruses. No wonder the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency lists indoor air quality as one of the top five environmental risks to public health today. And if you think your standard 1" throwaway furnace filter is doing the job, you couldn't be more wrong - typical 1" filters only trap about 5-15% of airborne particulates.

With homes being built and remodeled to be more insulated and air-tight than ever, they are becoming virtually draft-free. And while these changes are making homes more energy efficient, they are also creating a number of filtration problems. Particulates and pollutants become trapped and eventually build up inside your home, settling on countertops, floors and other surfaces. And with a standard throwaway furnace filter, only a small percentage of airborne pollutants are captured, with the majority of pollutants and particles being carried and re-circulated throughout your house via your air ducts and vents.

Industry leading air purification and filtration systems from General Aire can help your family breath easier by capturing even the smallest air borne contaminants, including allergy aggravating particles like pollen, mold and pet dander, in every room of your home.
